Judges Comments
The judges felt that Marianne Allen and year 4 show a love of Italian and the teacher a belief in the ability of her children. Her content language integrated learning methodology pervades every area of the school, and she also supports other teachers in incorporating Italian in their lessons.
To ensure that the school has achieved the highest levels of quality teaching for their children the head regularly employs Italian Foreign language assistants. The Local Authority adviser recalls one time when she was unable to see the Headteacher, as he was having Italian lessons with one of his foreign language assistants as part of his personal professional development.
The school uses links with European schools notably an Italian school, they incorporate music and Italian musicians with Vivaldi being conducted entirely in Italian. The school also utilises its learning platform by giving access to it for their Italian partnership school. This school is a worthy winner and the judges are excited by the range of teaching and learning opportunities for year 4 children and the use of technologies to enhance learning.
