Congratulations - German Winner
Vicarage Park Primary School
Judges Comments
The judges felt that the continuity of learning from year 1 to year 6 was a major success factor in children being able to speak German fluently. The year 2 class was commended for it use of learning about artefacts children understood. They concentrated on toys and games and were encouraged to describe and explain how they could be used. The school utilises age specific resources e.g. Moritz a German speaking bird puppet to greet and ask questions, to the year 6 mini enterprise in clocks reinforcing the telling of time. The school exudes excitement when German and Germany are discussed and German songs can often be heard in the playground. Every child is involved in every lesson and songs are used to reinforce learning with many of these are created by the children.
They have links with a German school and are looking forward to a tasty food topic later in the year with their partners. The judges felt the use of peer and self assessment to monitor progress was innovative, and the German Christmas evening where both performers and visitors were made aware of the differences and similarities between Germany and the UK.
