Congratulations - French Winner
Hertfordshire LA
Judges Comments
The judges felt that this award was given on a broader spectrum due to the impact on the amount of classroom learning that it supports in French. The entry was for Hertfordshire LA Primary Teaching team and was entered by many schools on their behalf. Their MFL adviser Jackie Rayment embodied the enthusiasm, commitment and understanding needed to foster a love of languages and achievement. She has organised liaisons and partnerships with many French speaking countries including those in Africa, and has worked in a cross-curricular manner embedding French teaching in the curriculum rather than a bolt on lesson.
The winning project was focussed around the Olympics and includes many schools in other authorities who have taken part in mini Olympics and are sharing the results in French. One head teacher commented ‘I was amazed at how much language these young children knew’ I can only see this venture as something that will grow in the future. A Year six pupil commented ‘I have never spoken so much French in my life’. Their ‘On Track’ French activity kit is the ideal partnership opportunity for the support and learning of French.
The judges felt that Jackie Rayment was a worthy winner due to the number of classrooms that her direct input makes a difference to.
