Rayleigh Primary School has been teaching French to its pupils since 2005 and has integrated language teaching into everyday life. French is taught by native language speakers, which helps in gaining an insight into the linguistic and tonal qualities of the language.
Children are encouraged to understand the festival and celebrations of France, celebrating them in the school and holding its own French day with exchange partners.
The school’s approach to teaching French means that every child has the opportunity to celebrate language from Nursery to Year 6.
The judges felt that the teaching methods, learning opportunities and the ethos of the school made it the perfect place to develop linguistic skills that will take them through life giving them opportunities throughout the world.
